Minnesota Unemployment Resources – Newspapers
Newspapers are the traditional source for posting and looking for jobs. Before the popularity of the internet and online job search engines, people who found themselves unemployed and looking for work usually scanned the employment ads in the classified sections of their newspapers.
For many of the largest regional (i.e. Minnesota or Twin Cities) or national newspapers the want ad scanning has evolved into searchable online job postings. These postings can also be the same that appear in the print version of the paper.
While small newspaper websites may not the number of jobs available on some of the larger more popular sites, they are a great resource for strictly local or part time work that wouldn’t warrant the employer placing (and paying for) an ad in a big paper or online job board. If you want to find part-time work in Eagan Minnesota, for example, the local Eagan newspaper is an excellent place to look.
The job resources in the larger newspapers can often compete with the big national job search websites. They usually have advanced search capabilities, resume posting, and company research. The smaller newspaper sites can be more difficult to navigate and use and will often be just listings of job openings (that may need to be scanned manually).
Sunday still remains the most popular day for new listings due to the listings are often mirrored in the print newspaper. In Unemployment MN we’ve listed the big newspapers first, and then alphabetically.
